I didn't pay much attention to the quality of sleep, let alone how much when I was younger. Certainly in high school my rhythm didn't fit with the mandatory school time, and in college there seemed little time for sleep. I knew sleep was important, and so I "made sure to get some" and that was my attitude. My standards for rest were very low. I realized during my junior year that sacrificing my sleep beyond a certain point was not only unpleasant an experience but counterproductive for the effectiveness of what I was trying to accomplish (including finishing homework). I started raising my standards of quality and quantity for my sacred rest time.
